President Obama "intends to propose a three-year freeze in spending that accounts for one-sixth of the federal budget -- a move meant to quell rising voter concern over the deficit but whose practical impact will be muted," the Wall Street Journal reports.
I'm in agreement with Nate Silver on this...this is bad politics. It's even worse economics, but it's knee jerk politics.
In this environment, that is the worst sort. The president is about to address the Congress of the United States on the condition of our country. He needs to do what he does best: explain complicated problems in simple but inspiring ways.
He doesn't need to cater to the whims of an electorate who got enamored with some guy in a pickup truck.
